A trip to a silk factory gave us an opportunity to buy gifts directly from the maker.


A visit to the former king’s intricately carved wooden palace – the only one to survive fires and the sacking of Mandalay hundreds of years ago.   Now it’s both a tourist attraction and a place of reverence for the many monks who visit.

The next stop was a visit to the pagoda of 500,000 Buddhas – There are hundreds of thousands of two inch high Buddhas along with hundreds of larger statues.
